FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What will I expect from being a member of Beta Alpha Psi?
A: There is a vast number of advantages from being part of BAP! Some benefits include:
• Discovering what career path within accounting you may want to pursue in the future.
• Improving networking and communication skills.
• Having the opportunity to learn more about accounting firms, from local to Big 4.
• Growing strong, interpersonal connections with your peers.
• Fostering professional growth.
Q: How do I become an official member?
A: If you are interested in becoming part of BAP, you will be considered a candidate for the first semester you are joining. You will then be initiated as an official member at the end of that semester once you have met your candidate requirements as follow:
• Attend an info session held at the beginning of each semester
• Attend a mandatory orientation for candidates
• Pay candidate fees
• Meet academic & hourly requirements. These requirements are noted in the
membership link: http://www.zetaiota.org/membership.html
Q: What are the costs of being a member in BAP?
A: Candidates must pay a one-time fee of $90, and all members must pay $40 per semester to remain in good standing.
Q: What happens if I fail to meet my requirements as a member?
A: If you do not fulfill all of your hours or pay all of your fees at the end of a semester, you will become a member in poor standing. In order to return to good standing, you must complete ALL requirements as a candidate, and you are allowed this option ONCE. Being in poor standing for two consecutive semesters will lead to your reassignment as a member, and you can no longer participate in BAP. As members of BAP, we are receiving helpful insights about accounting from firms who are spending their money and time to provide these resources. It is our responsibility to respectfully pay back to these firms by attending lunches, firm tours, and other events.
Q: How do I keep track of my hours or events to go to?
A: You can check to see if you are meeting your hourly requirements through this spreadsheet: https://goo.gl/Vecxtx. Our Reporter should be regularly updating the sheet, but if you have questions concerning your hours, please feel free to contact them at [email protected]. Additionally, you can check our calendar and social media pages for events and updates.
Q: Which events are mandatory?
A: Lunches and member meetings are mandatory to participate in. If you need to attend to important matters and cannot show up to a lunch or meeting, you must fill an absentee form 24 HOURS BEFORE the event to excuse yourself. Failure to do so will result in a fine of $5 per lunch/meeting. The absentee form can be found in the following link: http://www.zetaiota.org/absentee-form.html
Q: What is the usual dress code for BAP events?
A: For lunches and firm tours, the dress code will be business casual. For more formal events like Meet the Firms and Spring Banquet, business professional is a must. Members can dress casually for member meetings and community service events, unless otherwise noted.
Q: Are there other things I should be aware of once I join?
A: Being a member in BAP means committing time to our events. BAP enables you to acquire a better understanding of accounting in the real world and strengthen soft skills, but we anticipate active participation in return. We love to meet new faces and help them integrate into our society, but we also care that our members are able to fulfill their hours and maintain their membership. Thus, prior to joining, please consider whether you can devote enough time to engage in BAP-related events and keep up with hourly requirements.
